(Ramblings) Oh, The Weather Outside Is Frightful…

…but I got to leave work at noon because of it.

Snowy view from balcony

I feel like I'm back in elementary school — in a good sort of way.

(System Stuff) Search Is Broken

I have no idea what I did, but it appears that the search functionality is currently not available.  If you're looking for something, there's always Google.

(Ramblings) Firefox 3.0 Planned Features

The preliminary list of planned features for Firefox 3.0 was released yesterday.  Ignoring the fact that the features list really sounds more like it should be Firefox 2.1 than 3.0, there was one that caught my eye.  It's down at the very bottom of the "Highly Desirable Features" list:

  • Move Help content to web
    • FR: remove client-side documentation and replace with links to online documentation

Am I the only one who sees a problem here?  "Hrm.  Firefox doesn't seem to want to display any websites, well I'll just open up the help file and…"

Odd design decisions combined with what I feel to be general bloat and feature-creep (I moved from Mozilla to Firefox just so that I could avoid the feature-creep) are making me think about Opera more and more.

(System Stuff) IMPORTANT NOTICE

If you're coming here because you've been getting spam emails from this domain, then please read the following:

I had nothing to do with it.

At some point between January 7th and 8th, 2007 a moderate amount of spam was sent using the domain leftblank.org.  However, between Deccember 28th, 2006 and January 9th, 2007 all machines connected to the internet using the leftblank.org domain name were offline and powered down due to a change of connection provider.  I only found out about the spamming when the machines were reconnected on the evening of the 9th and I found some 200+ bounce, mailing list confirmation, and automatic "vacation" messages in my mailbox.

So, what happened: one of two things.  The first is that my mail server, which is hosted by a third-party site, was hacked and someone used it to spam.  (Rest assured that I have contacted them in order to discern whether this is, in fact, the case.)  However, this seems unlikely.  Far more likely is that this domain was the target of e-mail spoofing.

Regardless, I apologise for the inconvenience, and am probably far more pissed off about it than you.  However, as I am not the source of the spam I cannot control it.
