Great Three-Toed Sloth of Ice Planet Hoth!
I've posted stuff about Microsoft's sideways scrolling mouse before, but this is some new info.
Seems some of the models will be leather clad.
Leather Clad?! Did I read that wrong? (Nope, that's what it says)
Who needs a leather clad mouse? What's the point of a leather clad mouse? What's next? Chrome detailed monitors? Jewel encrusted towers? Cusomisable POST beeps?
(I just don't get it I guess…)
It's not really the first of its kind. iMacs were/are essentially the same thing -- an attempt to make computers not so ugly looking. It matters to many people. And it matters to the company; I don't know how many people bought iMacs in real life, but you see a ton of them on TV because they're so pretty.
But at least the (original) iMacs were only colours. I can deal with colours. Well, that's not entirely true, some of the iMacs had those odd flower and ploka dot designs on them. Of course, those never get TV exposure since most people consider them just plain ugly.
(I've known a few iMac owners, but I don't think any of them bought them based on colours since they were all the original iBondi blue or whatever it was called. Maybe it's my anti-Microsoft, sort of pro-Apple bias showing.)
Back on point, part of the reason is that I find the idea of a leather mouse kind of tacky. I just don't see it being any less ugly looking than a mouse that's the same colour as the rest of the computer it's sitting beside. I've never been a person to say 'Plain beige boxes only! Everything else is just useless frills.', but I think it needs to be done tastfully and I just don't see this as fitting that criteria.
Who knows, maybe they'll surprise me.
