Put Your Books Away; It's Pop Quiz Time.
How well do you know your punctuation and grammar? Take the BBC's quiz and find out!
I only managed a 5 out of 10, but I argue that some of the questions shouldn't be there.
For the curious, the ones I got wrong were:
- Question 1, which I forgot to answer.
- Question 2, as I forgot to include the quotation marks in my counting.
- Question 4, but since both are technically correct, I'd argue this one.
- Question 6, which I guessed on.
- Question 8, which I don't feel should have been there (and which I guessed on).
I also had 5/10.
I got 1, 2, 3, 8 and 10 wrong.
Damn english anyway.
I got 9/10; the only one I got wrong was the ridiculous Question #8, which, as mentioned, shouldn't have been there.
I got 9/10. I missed #4, but I'm pretty darn sure that the 'wrong' way was what I was always taught.
I think the most out of place question there was the Shakespeare one. I mean, really... What the hell does that have to do with proper use of punctuation?
I wouldn't feel too bad about getting #4 wrong, as the general rule I seem to remember growing up was "always put the last damn period inside the quotes". Personally, however, I don't like this - I think it's related to programming, because in my mind it means that the period is part of the enclosed string, and it shouldn't be. ;-)
And the only reason I remembered the Shakespeare question was due to my Grade 12 English teacher's love affair with "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
