Now Why Didn't I Think of This?
Given that more and more commenting systems have anti-spam/bot systems in place, and more and more seem to have implemented rel="nofollow" in the href tags for posted links, what's a spammer who wants to promote the page rank of their website to do?
The answer, in at least one case, appears to be: get people to post your link for you, and in their own entries at that.
Go to this site and enter a link in the box. (Be amazed that apparently Google is genius-level!) Everything looks fine, right? Now go to the box with the HTML markup and scroll down all the way. Look at the last two lines of text, namely the stuff between the small tags.
This implementation certainly isn't subtle, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it improved on in the future.
