(Ramblings) What I Learnt On My  Summer  Autumn Vacation

By Andrew G., Age 22

  • Cheesecake tastes good even if it's your first time making it.
  • Additionally, since cheesecake isn't that hard to make, it's expensive to buy ingredients for.
  • Corn starch makes stuff thick fast.
  • Custard requires a special touch to make correctly, and I don't have it.
  • One Athlon Thunderbird gives off more heat than one PPC 604e, one Celeron, and two SuperSPARCs combined.
  • My freezer can fit a lot more food than I thought.
  • There's only so many games of Space Trader you can play in one week.
  • Packing a hard drive for shipping so that you don't void the warranty is harder than you think.
  • Having nothing to do in Moncton is just as boring as having nothing to do in Frdericton.
  • It takes less than a week for my mother to start nagging me about something.
  • Free food doesn't make nagging bearable.
  • The Chapters in Moncton is much better than the one in Fredericton.
  • They still don't have a copy of Good Omens though.
  • Even given that, I can't walk into a Chapters without spending some money.

I never liked the concept of people making cheesecake.  To me, it's a mysterious delicacy that can only be purchased in restaurants and cafes and stores.  If a regular person can just go out and make cheesecake, all the magic is taken out of it.  It would be like if Santa Claus didn't exist, or if the tooth fairy was really my mom.

I think that very little can make nagging bearable.  It would only be good as an alternative to, say, living on the street.

That said, I can no longer complain about my mom at all.  All my friends used to be scared of my mom;  now, I actually enjoy going home and visiting them.  It's a nag free lifestyle, pretty much.

Also, the assignment was supposed to be in essay form, not point form.  And you misspelled "learned".

Actually, learnt is a 'chiefly British variant of the past and past participle of learn' according to Webster. (I'd much rather be using Oxford for this, but they don't have a free web version.) You're not going to catch me quite that easily. (Well, maybe you will catch me that easily, just not there.)

It's odd, everyone who's met my parents love them, but they drive me up the wall after more than a weekend around them. (To give you an idea of what I mean: Last time I talked to my ex she claimed she missed seeing them.) I think it's that 20+ years of dealing with them has made it difficult not to get on each other's nerves eventually.

As for cheesecake: My mother gave me money to buy ingredients, so I don't care where it comes from. Besides, it's not something I can make often seeing as the chocolate cheesecake cost $25 just to buy the ingredients.

B+? I'm quite pleased, seeing as the assignment was 833 words under the required length.
