Paging All Insomniacs!
I've got a problem, and it's not the one that Peter made reference to earlier. This one's got absolutely nothing to do with bits of silicon, plastic, and metal run by series of 1s and 0s. No, this one is much simpler.
I can't sleep.
I'm tired. I can't look at a monitor or read a book without my eyes feeling like they're going to sink into my head and my eyelids getting heavy. However, once I turn out the lights and let my head hit the pillow all that disappears. That's right, I'm only sleepy until I try to get to sleep.
So, what I'm looking for are people's tricks and solutions for getting to sleep. Warm milk, soothing music, whatever. Just gimme!
I'm a sufferer of this.
Good solutions I've found include distracting myself so I fall asleep. The more I try to fall asleep, the less I do. So I run through the code in my mind for something I'm working on (Open Chained Hash Tables are particularily effective) and since my mind is distracted from the thoughts of falling asleep.. I fall asleep. This may work with other things. But whatever you do.. DO NOT think of your thesis, and how little you have done. That's not distracting.. its scary.
I am actually an Olympic quality sleeper, able to fall asleep within 5 minutes, generally, and then nothing can wake me up.
However, I think exercise during the day is the best solution to your problem. Do sometime to make your body physically tired, in addition to the mental tiredness you get from working.
Ok, I've got thinking about other things and exercising during the day.
I'll try the thinking about other things tonight and hopefully I'll be able to get to bed before 4AM.
As for exercise, I get between half an hour and fifty minutes of brisk (and I do mean brisk) walking almost everyday since my apartment is a fair distance from campus, but I may have to take up running again. I'll have to find some warmer clothes than what I used to use though.
Go to the doctor. Complain of sleep problems until he/she gives you a perscription for zopiclone.
Best solution I've ever found. : )
...God, I'd love to have another bottle of those. Best sleep I can remember having.
Dammit! I knew I shouldn't have second-guessed myself on your birthday present. ; P
If nothing else works I'll take a trip down at the end of the week. I'd prefer to keep of the drugs if I can though.
