Crustacean shells have lots of minerals that are good for plants, no?  I'd say the claws are there because there was a poor grinder being used.

Kind of a shame if you're a vegan trying to grow nice organic vegetables in a home garden and you're undermined by crab death in your soil, though.  "Vegan dirt" -- the new big market idea!

While I don't konw about minerals and whatnot, I did figure it was there for organic material of some sort.  There're actually a lot more crab bits in the soil, it's just that those were the biggest ones that were spotted when filling the pots and trays.
