(System Stuff) The Weatherman Says "Fair," But He Looks Like A Lie

The following is a filler entry, designed simply to put something up here.  You have been warned.

By now most of you have probably noticed the new section in the sidebar tracking the rapture index.  It's something I find amusing, since, according to the factors he takes into account, we should expect the rapture any time soon.  Of course, the fact that any single event can cause the index to rise while it takes months of inactivity for it to fall has nothing to do with it, oh no, not at all.  (Case in point: The description for 'Flooding' makes reference to hurricane Isabel.  Isabel made landfall almost two months ago.)

Anyways, the sidebar itself is hardly finished.  Originally there were supposed to be terrorist alert level style images there instead, but they didn't look right.  I'm thinking of little stock market style arrows instead.  Sometime, when I have a bit more free time, I'll mess around with it more.  Until then it remains a fairly cludgy link to something I find unintentionally amusing.

This also marks my first posting using the hastily done, and therefore exceptionally ugly, "System Stuff" image.  I really need to get around to making a better one.

It looks like a broom.  Really though

Phf.  It's clearly a four-legged creature of some sort.

With a stick coming out of his back?

I'm thinking of replacing it something looking like a terminal, or a prompt, but I can't come up with anything I like in the image size I've restrained myself to.

...and it's quite obviously an insect made out of pipe-cleaners. : P

Possible replacement:

Comments?

(And I think I'm going to leave the rapture index sidebar in its new iteration... Proof that I can't stay focused on my thesis long enough to get anything done.)

What does the delta indicate for the rapture index?  Is that daily movement.

I think the terminal is rather obscure for "system stuff".  I liked the picture of gears, if you ever used such a picture.  Otherwise, I would recommend a picture of gears.

Right, gears.  May not be that easy given the height restrictions I've created, but I could give that a try sometime.

As for the rapture index, I believe it's a weekly change, but I can never remember for sure.  It's checking every night, but I should really include the last updated somewhere in what it prints out.

The rapture index is quite entertaining.  I enjoy the fact that, although they SAY we're moving towards the rapture, the year to year totals don't really reflect that.
(one would expect the index to rise from year to year, but it doesn't seem to be so.)

There used to be a site that had a graph tracking the index.  I can't find it anymore, but I seem to remember it always staying in roughly the same area. (Low-'fasten your seatbelts' range)

If I can't find that chart I may just have to make my own script to do so.

Hrmmm... I just looked at the record low link and noticed something: his scale doesn't appear to start at zero.  Supposedly all the factors disappeared or went dormant, but nothing's below a 1.  Tsk tsk tsk.

I'd make a comment about the categorization numbers appearing to be arbitrary as well (i.e. The first category is between 40 and 85 points, the second is 25, the third 35, and the fourth 110.), but the entire thing is pretty arbitrary anyways, and that's the beauty of it.
