Gerond Withoutitude Form Into Formless Bloit, Why Not Then? Moose.
I'm getting fed up with robots that both fail to obey my robots.txt file, and try to go unnoticed by faking a MSIE user agent. Therefore, please don't click here or here. (I did have to get links to the files on my webpage though, hence the reason for this post.)
And yes, before anyone asks, there was a Slashdot article about this today. That's what pointed me towards WebPoison.org and Wpoison rather than building my own (which was something that I'd been thinking about doing for a while).
"The difference is, WebPoison.org is an open-source* project, in which many programmers can contribute. [snip] *Technically speaking, webpoison.org is not "open source" because the source code may never be made public- doing so would undermine the project's central goal."
Ummm...
Yeah, I'm not sure what's up with that either. I get the feeling that they think "Open Source" is just sort of a buzzword they can use to make the project sound better.
That said, all it does is keep me from needing to generate a couple dozen HTML pages worth of gibberish and nonsense links. If I actually had to use any sort of executable, I think I'd pass. (Explanation: I don't care if your software is open source or not, but when you can't get something like the description right, well...)
